Best Time to Build a Pool
Winter is the best time to build a pool in Kzn because summer is our rainfall season. We love the rain in the summer; It’s what makes our province so beautiful and green.
The disadvantage of a rainy season is that if you are building onto your home or building or renovating a swimming pool, the rain can wreak havoc. Not only will the building stop while it rains, but it can also undo some of the preparation work done during the course of the building.
It’s common practice for building contractors to add 30% extra time onto their schedule to account for rainy days. (I.e. if the job will take 10 days, then the scheduled time is about 13 days. This excludes the time and costs if any damage to the existing structure occurred due to the rain.
Supply and demand can also affect the best time to build a pool.
Swimming pool builders and contractors get extremely busy during the summer. Supply and demand drive up prices and can sometimes end in rushed jobs. Don’t go for cheap swimming pool quotes. There’s a reason these contractors cannot get their price.
The trick is to research the pool company online and be prepared to meet them in person. Especially if it is a large job or a new pool. You may think their quote is the right price, but once you meet them, you could change your mind about using them.
Ensure that your swimming pool contractor is a member of a professional organization such as the Master Builders Association or the South African Pool and Spa Association.
How long does it take to build a swimming pool? Allow yourself about 6 months from appointing the pool contractor to completing the pool. (If you don’t have approved plans.) With approved plans, you can possibly start the pool construction within 2 – 6 weeks.
